However, he or she may fear a long and expensive judicial procedure, and may suffer psychologically as they are exposed in the media.
Members of the opposition party, the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) have been through different kinds of legal cases since the KMT government took office in 2008. The names and positions of the DPP members can be found in this article.
The cases involve many former high ranking politicians of the previous DPP government in Taiwan.
Most of the DPP members have subsequently been found not guilty. However, even if a member is found not guilty, he or she may fear a long and expensive judicial procedure. In addition, the members may suffer psychologically as they are exposed in the media, and the financial consequences can be overwhelming.

Type I: Cases Featuring Acquittals or Closure without Indictments
The cases belonging to type I refers to judicial cases involving DPP members who held government positions in which they have already been acquitted, not indicted or not indicted with the investigation closed.
The total number of cases is 25, and 26 persons have been involved.

Type II: Cases so far judged ‘Not Guilty’
The cases belonging to type II refers to cases in which DPP members who held government positions were subjected to unfair judicial treatment and which have already entered and have not yet completed the trial process but in which the most recent judgment remains “not guilty”.
The total number of cases is 8 and 9 persons involved.

Type III: Cases with violations of the principle of proportionality
The cases belonging to type III refers to cases in which prosecutors and investigators obviously transgressed the principle of proportionality or displayed other forms of bias.
