Taiwan Corner’s chairman Michael Danielsen’s OpEd for the Taipei Times discusses the designation of Taiwanese nationals in Denmark following the Danish Foreign Minister's openness to an alternative solution for the registration of Taiwanese as Chinese. He writes that one “could fear that because Denmark has moved toward Beijing’s “one China principle,” it would be harder to quickly go back to registering Taiwanese as “Taiwanese” due to fear of a possible angry response from China.” “This leads to a discussion of other alternative solutions and unacceptable designations. These include the meaningless “Chinese Taipei,” which is used typically at sporting events, or even worse, “Taiwan, China” or “Taiwan, province of China.” “ Our choice is Taiwan.

[Denmark-Taiwan] Vice president-elect Hsiao Bi-khim visits Europe including the European parliament and Denmark registers Taiwanese as Chinese. “Taiwan Corner chairman Michael Danielsen writes on Taiwan Corner “about an article published in Danish newspaper Berlingske the same day Hsiao was meeting EU parliamentarians about how in interactions with the Danish state, a Taiwanese’s nationality is now listed as “China.” “Danielsen writes that this seems to represent a “paradigm shift” in Denmark’s policy, drawing it more in line with the PRC’s “one China principle” and suggesting that it now regards Taiwan as part of China, an idea that is not touched upon in Denmark’s “one China policy.”
